Son of a Beach… Holy Sugar… What the fork… Just a few of the uncontrollable moments we have all possibly spewed while driving at one time or another.
Let’s work on that together…
Before I get into the 3 easy steps to reduce stress while driving I wanted to share a personal story with you. While driving in my car the other day I witnessed road rage at it’s finest (not so fine) moment. Driver one; you could tell was in a hurry and anxious, but when the the other driver, driver two; slowed to make a turn it forced the unhappy driver to slow down. It was apparent driver two slowed down too much for driver one’s liking and when driver one could not get around driver two…” Beeeeeeep” Thus alarming the driver causing her to slow even more to look. Driver one instantly flicked off driver two and sped past. I was shocked, watching this all play out I thought this could have easily been me driving too slow for that impatient driver. Especially during that turn she was making, I could just imagine her attempting to diffuse a fight between her children or pass a snack to her screaming toddler to calm them. No matter what the situation nothing the driver did should have warranted her to be treated that way.
Some triggers that can result in road rage include…
Running late for work
Previous argument with a loved one
Bad day at work
On the way to a stressful event
Physically feeling ill
So, let’s work on our anxiousness in the car before it becomes road rage. How I combat the urge to easily get frustrated while driving is by diffusing oils, Deep Breathing and music that makes me happy.
Diffusing can help to “diffuse” a possible emotionally fueled moment by using calming essential oils
Now, I just have to share my two most personal favorite oils to diffuse while driving
I swear by it, every time I diffuse lavender it gives me a much more relaxed feeling. So, for my anxiety I diffuse lavender and lavender alone for times of high stress.
DO YOU EVER GET CAR SICKNESS OR NAUSEOUS ON LONG CAR TRIPS? I DO!
To combat, I either eat a peppermint candy or diffuse straight peppermint essential oils or both!
And for those days I feel stressed and nauseous it’s Lavender/Peppermint to the rescue, it’s a lovely combination.
Top recommended oils for anxiety include: Lavender, Rose, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang, Bergamot, Chamomile and Frankincense
Different types of music fuel different emotions we have. Think right now about what music always puts a smile on your face and love in your heart, which songs make you feel good? That is the music you should listen to in the car, or at the very least on days your feeling stressed.
My personal favorite is anything Jack Johnson, love love love his music!
So many times when stress arises we forget to take a deep breath in, it works! Next time a stressful event occurs stop everything and focus on taking 3 deep breaths, it has been proven to calm the nerves and lower stress levels.
Well there you have it and I hope you find these 3 Steps to feel relaxed while driving helpful. At the very least you’ll have a great smelling car and good music, nothing to lose so give it a try 🙂
